Anna? You still there? I found you there, but.......your name is a very recent add to the membership, within the past day, as well as adding your "eye" film logo a few minutes ago. How long did it take for you to be offered the money and from when you joined?

I just recently changed my profile there to reflect my business. Its time for me to step it up.
Hey Doc where are you in Riverside. I have all the equipment I need, but I can use some assistance
or guidance.
@Kegan I got that part under control.
My "confusion" is what should I prep for? What should I get ready for?
How do I go about things like permits, locations, etc?
Will this be a waist of money?
So many questions lol

Biggest question; What am I going to do with the finished product?
I have never really thought of the business side of things

All I need is a little (actually a lot) of advice. lol

Umm, let's talk a bit first. PM me. Apparently I cannot PM you. I have a few questions/concerns. I'd prefer to not ask these questions in open forum, just not a good thing. Or if you say ok, I will ask in open forum. Or I can ask you in the other forum.

You know how it is. There are a lot of people out there that claim a lot of false things. I have a series of questions I use to qualify potential clients to protect myself and my business. And since you may be considering my services, I would like to have that dialog with you.

Hi Anna - I just want to cast my vote of confidence in whatever advice Doc has to give… he's a good and wise guy!

I know an accountant. :)
But where do I begin the search for a good lawyer for this?

Well, I would start my search by contacting successful filmmakers in your area and asking for a recommendation for lawyers. If that is not an option, then I would contact your state's Bar Association for recommendations for Entertainment lawyers. When contacting those lawyers, be honest about your experience and the resources you have available. Then go with the lawyer that shows the most enthusiasm for working with you and treats you with the most respect. Lawyers are, by nature, a**holes and you are hiring them to be a**holes in defense of your interest. If they are a**holes TO you, then tell them to take a hike, and get another lawyer.

I would like to formally apologize if I have caused any uproar or confusion with this post.
I was recommended to this site, and from what I have been reading, this was a GREAT
recommendation. I did not want to just ask around, too many moochers would be out to
get there hands on a dollar. lol

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anna - I would definitely look into a lawyer because you're gonna have to draw up contracts for point distribution & stuff like that... permits & stuff are usually handled by your producer/production team... i think with a nice little budget like you have you should build yourself a team - it's tough wearing all of the production hats (i'm doing it myself right now for a $8,000 film & its not easy, it's very time consuming) - out of curiosity where are you located? - Vince

Yes, definitely tough to wear all the hats. I have time though because we
still have do more work with the script. I only have it typed up on MS Word.
Los Angeles

Following David's input - I want to add. $100k is actually not a great deal of money when you need to produce a viable product - and can be gone in a flash. Keep the emotion in the script but get the emotion out of the rest of it - treat it like a business.
