Help I need a cheap PC

Hi

I'm looking to build a PC to edit DVX100 footage with. I currently use Premier Pro 2 to my editing with a bit of After Effects occasionaly.

I don't realy know where to start my buget is about £500-800. I the only parts of my old computer that i think may be any use to me is the firewire card and the hard drives (7200rpm not SATA). I'll also be re-using my monitor, keyboars and mouse.

Every where i look on the net at the moment i see arguments about Intel or AMD, does this even make any difference to me or shoud i not get to hung up on them make and just look at what the spec says.

if any one knows of a good setup that i might be able to build with in my budget, or any one that has recently built a setup like this and has any comments about parts that work well or things that went wrong i would greatly apreceate it.

thanks

Jay

Go to someplace like zipzoomfly.com, newegg.com, or tigerdirect.com, and you can find motherboard combos with processors and ram pretty cheap. As far as what chip to use, that is usually an argument for brand loyalty. I prefer AMD, as you usually get a little better price. But my main reason for sticking with them, comes from buying a chip from a less than honorable dealer a few years back.

I had bought an AMD 1800XP from them, and after about a year, it started going bad. The only way the PC would boot, was showing the chip as an 1100. The dealer told me that was because it had an 1100 in it, not the 1800 I had purchased. After telling them the only way it was an 1100, was if they switched chips on me. They tore it down, and decided the chip was going bad. Big surprise. They also told me tough luck, that was my problem, they don't warranty parts.

After a few calls, I got in touch with AMD's sales rep. He said no problem, another chip is on the way. Just send us the bad chip when you get it. That right there sealed the deal for me.

thanks for the help any one know of any british web pages that offer good deals.

I think i'm going to by an Intel e6600 duo core processor, any have any experince with these.
