Help! I didn't copy the entire directory! AVCHD (MTS) to FCS

I only copied the video files since I normally operate in Premiere and Vegas. Never had a need for the 'wrapper'... A client is using FCS and obviously my method sabotaged log and transfer. I don't have the original card intact, so I am about to convert the mts files to a format that will work best with Final Cut. Any thoughts?

Is there a way to 're-wrap' the files?

What is the ideal format that Final Cut wants to work with?

Thank you in advance for your help and scolding!

I work on PC, its my client who is using Final Cut.. So I don't have access to Toast, and I'd rather not tell him to do the conversion unless I genuinely can't do it myself.

I downloaded a trial of Pavtube's MTS encoder. Seems to work well but I can't send it to ProRes... Am I going to loose quality if I drop it to a .mov? Is it possible to download the ProRes codec for PC?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I just don't work in the Mac ecosystem and have never had this problem before...

Apple doesn't supply a ProRes encoder, only a decoder, so no, you can't make prores files from Windows.

You could probably rewrap it as a .MOV file maintaining the h.264 data inside, but they may not like editing those files directly.

Note -- even on Windows, there are reasons to keep the entire directory structure. When you use just the MTS files you lose timecode, and you lose any metadata (including the shot mark). If you keep the whole directory structure you'll find that you have both.

No doubt, MOV video with ProRes codec is the best video for further editing in FCP.
I have heard that some program can convert your MTS video to Apple ProRes, but never heard of re-wrapper.
Bu I am not sure if the video quality will be reduced in the process of converting.

Good luck.:love4:

Ask your client to download the trial of Premiere Pro for the Mac and then he'll be able to import the .MTS files and export to Prores with no visual loss of quality.
