Im editing HDV with vegas, and when I try and play/preview stuff it goes really slow and jumps around. I only have 512mb ram, but it works fine with DV...?

Also,

What doyou render 1080i to so that it will play in Quicktime without needing a codec thing for it?

512 is a lil low for HDV my friend.

Reg your second question. Even quicktime will use some codec. The only video that doesnt use a codec is uncompressed and that wont play so easily on any system. I think just rendering to quicktime or .mov will do. It will play by default in quicktime player.

As a side note i just built a system with 3 x 250gb HDDrives, 2 GB of 667mhz Ram, Intel Dual Core 3.4 Ghz, 2mbx2 L2 Cache and its stuttering for SD resolution playback. LOL. I myself am trying to set things right and optimize the system for better performance with help from members here, seriously.

wow plainman! how much did that system cost!
Ill get my specs when I have it in front of me.
Im running Vegas 6.0 and I captured using the
second option (vegas' internal program) so that
the file size would be lower.

I tried to export as a .avi and that didn't work, so
what are the export settings. I also tried to export
for Quicktime 6.0 which sort of worked, but it would
hardly play in QT, it would sorta jump around and
freze and stuff

Export,,, plz be clear your trying to export (back to tape or recording device) or just trying to render to....

Hmmm, about the jumping and stuff. You never know. With computers. In fact i tried a dual core optimization update patch. The system seems better now. But you wont believe it. I have a 30 min mpeg2 clip on the timeline (looped). Vegas plays it back real time. 3 loops and 4th time its looping its playing at 5 FPS. As if the system suddenly got fatigued of its own. These OS things start some background operations at times i guess.

My system costed me 1500.USD.
