Help for New Person

I recently shot a music video with my DVX100B. I shot in 24p and in letterbox. I also got a brand new iMac over Christmas with the intention of getting Final Cut Studio. However I am short on funds.

I have to get this thing edited. So I have some questions. I have looked around for the answers, but to be honest, its a little confusing to follow some of these threads. So maybe can I get a simple answer.

If I edit footage shot on 24p in something like iMovie what happens to the footage? I know the issues about there being no 24p support. But I imported some of it into iMovie and it still looks good, so what happens? Does it go haywire when I try to export?

The big question is about Final Cut Express. Trying to edit in iMovie is a pain (as i can't seem to figure out how to have more than one video track) so I need to get something.
Will Final Cut Express be a decent alternative to FCP Studio? Again, what happens to the 24p when its done this way?

Thanks a lot.

Tom...

Keep in mind that 24p on the DVX means 29.97.

Keeping that in mind just import the footage in iMovie or FCE and you'll be fine. Don't worry about 24 frames per second until you start shooting 24pA and you have FCStudio. Stay away from that setting UNTIL you have Pro.

K?

Thank you Captain. Scene File F5 is the 24p and F6 is th 24pA..is that correct? So its only the 24pA that requires FCP?

So I could get FC express for 199 at the apple store and that would be good for 24p?

Thanks a bunch. I really don't know this camera as well as I need to. I guess thats what happens when you give a hi-tech device to a goofy artist.

Yes -- for now the Express will work fine for you.

24pA will work too... as long as you don't plan on removing the cadence. Everything the DVX puts to tape will be at 29.97 and can easily be pulled off as such by Express. 24pA won't look very good as the cadence it uses can look jumpy to the normal person. 24p uses a less complicated cadence (hence A = Advanced) and will be semi-pleasing to the eye.

Good luck,
