HELP! Final Cut Pro X Editing with Transitions.

I am working on a music video and I am getting really frustrated. Every time I add a transition to my project it lengthens my project to where everything I have synced up gets un-synced. What am I doing wrong?
 
In editing preferences, change transitions to "Available Media". The makes it work the old FCP way without buggering up the lengths/syncs.
