i posted this in the technical DVX section too:

guys, i got my video from prague finished and im trying to burn it to dvd. I cant. Its 23 minutes long and before my computer finishes transcoding 50% in premier pro 1.5, my computer crashes and reboots.

i need to find da program Quick that converts AVI to DVD. Ive looked on video help, poo poo em, im sick of running through their site trying freeware after freeware, or even just downloading instructions without the programs... argh

please guys, i need a quick fix, im tired of looking.

AVI to DVD converter so i can burn.

Thanks. Getting really frustrated here.

You do not need an AVI to DVD Converter cos there is no such thing.

You need to Encode your AVI to mpeg so I suggest "MAINCONCEPT mpeg Encoder" - the standalone version. (about $99 I think)

Then you need to work out what you want on the DVD (eg menus etc). If so ,you need to use a DVD Authoring application - such as Adobe Encore (although the there are many others) and you import the mpeg into that app.

If you do not need fancy menus etc, just burn the mpeg onto the DVD and click on it to play it. (Some players will auto play it anyway).

PaPa,

Weird. I have the same version of P Pro and I've exported to DVD twice just today. Make sure you have the latest update (I believe its version 1.51 from Adobe) and then export to DVD. That's all I've been doing and it seems to work just fine for me.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I could walk through it with you via chat or something.

sounds like a plan hawkmankt.

just heading out now but ill pm you later on

have you ever tried burning to DVD 20 mins of footage? Has it taken you more than 14 hours plus 2 reboots?

Adobe Media Encoder might come in handy at some point for you.

I recommend Encore as well. There should be a 30 day trial at www.adobe.com
It shouldn't take you too long to figure out the basics, especially if you don't need anything fancy.
Good luck!

can scanner. What is a good compression to use for the overall raw AVI file type to make the transcoding to DVD quicker? but without lossing noticeable quality?

i usualy export from pro 1.5 as a mpg2 dvd ready file and use DVD LAB pro to burn it to disk.

If it's only 23 minutes long, I would go with a high quality, CBR preset with a bitrate of 7mbps. Once you have your encoded m2v and wav files, I would follow the other recommendations and use Encore.

One (or many) advantage of using Encore vs. the Premiere Pro 'export to DVD' function is that Encore will encode your audio to AC3 format. Unless you buy the overpriced plug-in for PPro to do AC3 encoding, PPro will give you a DVD with a PCM audio stream. I've run into some DVD players that choke on the bandwidth of a PCM audio stream even though it's part of the NTSC DVD spec.

Teledan's high quality, CBR 7mbps sounds good. Try it out on a few dvd players before you show it to anyone- if it's jerky at all, you might try lowering the bitrate to 6 or 6.5.
My copy of PrePro 1.5 has 3 trial uses of Surcode's fancy Dolby enocder for dvd (in the Adobe Media Encoder). Once I ran out of that, I just exported PCM (.wav) audio, from the AME, with the MPEG 2 video. Then in Encore I only have to transcode the audio to (yay!) Dolby (with less options than Surcode but at least it's not a stupid trial), and this takes barely any time at all.
Hope that makes sense!

im trying that now, only problem is its giving it a bitrate of 3 instead of 5 6 or 7, so can i up it?

what settings in the presets should i change to export it great quality for TV DVD playback?
