Help! Epson R210 Printer Doesn't Print Color Properly

Hi all,

I'm in a dilema here. I'm printing a wedding DVD label for a client. It is of a wedding montage. Please go to the following url to see screenshots :

The first time I printed the DVD label design on the DVD, all the colors came out looking just fine like in picture 2. But then when I printed the exact same label design again (refer to picture 3), you can see that the "wedding Montage" (8 minute highlight) title came out in a pale pink & the pictures of the wedding couple also looked very odd compared to picture 2.

I tried printing the label 2 other times with the same undesirable result.

I've provided a screenshot in picture 1 of the levels of ink remaining in my printer's cartridges. Even though the cartridges are not dangerously empty, could this be the reason why the blues did not print out as desired? I tried restarting my PC & printer & print again, but to no avail.

Would replacing the nearly empty ink cartridges with brand new ones solve the problem? It's really perplexing & frustrating because the cartridges are not completely empty. Please help, anyone if you know of a solution. I have to deliver the DVDs soon to my client.

Much thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andrew

The cartridge ink levels could be a problem, but I would use the Epson utility to clean the print heads before I replaced them altogether. I have the R200 and have had to clean the heads after prolonged periods of non use. However, my symptons were missing lines, not bad colors, so low ink might be the more likely culprit. Also make sure you have your print settings correct within the EasyCD program. I'm just throwing out ideas at this point, by the way. Have you been able to print on these same DVDs with good results before? If they're a new brand, you may just need to adjust the label itself.

Thanks Jason for your help.

Well, yes, the print settings are all correct. I used the same settings to print the labels twice. The only difference is that the first label print came out right & the second came out looking like crap. It's strange because during the second label print, it seemed like the blue color had some problems being printed. I think the other colors like yellow, magenta, black came out OK.

I've been using the same direct-print-on DVDs for years& in the past, the print results were excellent.

Could it be that the blue ink catridges have dirty nozzles, or perhaps the nozzles were somehow blocked?

I'll try use the Epson utility & see if it solves the problem. Btw, how do I access the Epson utility?

Thank you again Jason.

Hi Andy,

Like Jason I too use the R200.

It sounds like a cleaning is required.

I use 3rd party inks and they give me some issues but not a lot.

For instance my brother-in-law produced a demo of his music to submit and we created a burgundy label for the cd. Unfortunately it came out more brown than red. Still, he liked the look and kept it.

Let us know how the cleaning went.

sincerely,

ian

Well, glad to let you know that it was dirty cartridges. Particularly the blue & light blue cartridges as I did a test print & the blue lines did not print properly.

After cleaning the cartridges, all the colors printed properly again. Thanks very much for all your advice.
