Help! Encoding DVD file to MPEG2

Hi All,

I have a real dillema I don't know how to solve & time is very limited as I only have a couple days left to solve this problem.

I met with a wedding client outside from my studio & they have this DVD of their photo slideshow that they want incorporated into some photo slideshows that I'm currently doing for them. They want me to add the contents from this DVD to my existing slideshow workflow in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.

They could not let me take back the physical DVD to encode the file to MPEG2, so I just copied the entire contents of the DVD unto my harddisk. The files can be seen in the first picture. As you can see, there are 3 folders.

I open the folder "VIDEO_TS" with the following files as can be seen in the second screenshot.

Now I try to import the file called "VIDEO_TS.VOB" into Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, but get the error message as shown in screen capture 4.

I need a 3rd-party software to encode the DVD data files to a usable format like .avi, or mpeg2.

What softwares would you recommend I can download as a trial version from the Internet that can convert the DVD data VOB files stored on my computer to .avi or .mpeg2? I really need help as time is running out soon.

Much thanks in advance for your help.

Andrew

Rename .vob to .mpg and try then.

VIDEO_TS.vob contains menu(s) and VTS_01_1.vob is your movie. They are MPEG2 files with .ac3 or .pcm audio but unlike ordinary .mpg files, .vob can hold additional streams like subtitles, menus...

If renaming doesn't help, then you must demultiplex your .vob...meaning you have to take "apart" this .vob
For example TMPGEnc can do this (file/mpeg tools). Then you have three or four separate streams - m2v (elementary video), ac3 (audio) and some other data. Then multiplex (join) these .m2v and ac3 to MPEG2 Program Stream and you'll get proper .mpg file.

Some software for converting: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?convert=VOB to MPG
