HELP! Editing video off a DVD

The DVD stream rippers are slow and create a bunch of junk to work with, but they can run while you sleep if necessary.

I often use my outboard deck and play the clips I want into my NLE via Firewire. I only get the clips I want, quick and simple. It all depends on how much time you have and what quality level you need. The firewire method is excellent using my Canopus ADVC-100.

Pick up a used dvc100 from canopus...
I have one, itll save a lot of time in the long run....

To capture using a dvd player though...you need to hold down the silver button (changes input from digital/analog) until you see the color bars on the screen...

This removes the macrovision protection ;)

Play the DVD in a DVD player and hook it up to your DVX to the RCA jacks and put the DVX on VCR and hit record to record it to tape, then dump the tape and edit. :)

Won't copy-protection interfere with running the signal through the DVX...?

Magic DVD Ripper works very well, for me; it's about a $30 download, I think.

The debug mode on the ADVC-100 was worth the price of the box, to quickly strip Macrovision from analog or digital sources. The box also does a kick-a$$ job of transferring the data to the PC without losing AV sync or dropping any frames.

Any signal passing through the DVX should still contain the Macrovision encoding since it's not specifically designed to strip the encoding.

or using arams DVX method you ca just run it to the Computer in realtime on the fly DV translation.
