I own final cut express 4, and recently i was hired to piece together a pilot a friend of mine shot. He gave me a DVD of the footage for me to use. The problem being, some of the files range between .Mpg, .wmv, and then there are even files types that i've never heard of such as ".BUP, .VOB, .IFO (and the icons to these files say "exec")

My question is, how do I go about editing with these files, when none of them will open on my Final Cut Express 4.0?

Is it my software?

Do I need to convert these files into a more acceptable file type (DV? AIFF? etc) If this is the case, how do I go about doing this considering my limited economical resources and my short timeframe?

Use MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert ALL of the footage to DV/NTSC.

But stuff like .exe? That is a PC executable file. Find out what those are.

But really, trying to cut something shot with 5-6 different formats... and all seeming jumbled together in a mash of unorganized goo? That's pretty irresponsible.
