Help: Editing Canon 5D, GH2, and HPX170 footage.

Hey Guys I shot a wedding this weekend with a Canon 5D, Panasonic GH2, and Panasonic HPX170.

I'm wondering what the best way is to work this footage in a single timeline. The 170 was shot 720P 24pn, the GH2 was 1080 24p, and the 5D was 1080p at 30 frames per second.

So my plan is to transcode the 5D files to Apple ProRes 720 24p. Transcode the GH2 files to Apple Pro Res 720. Then put them all on a 720p timeline together.

My question... is there a better way to do this? Will the motion be slowed down with the transcoding from 30 to 24 on the 5D files? Is the quality going to be noticeably better if I upres the 170 footage and work in a 1080 timeline? Final delivery will be standard DVD, web, and possibly Blu-Ray depending on the availability of players among their extended family.

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys.

The 30p footage is going to cause you some pretty big problems. You'll have to take out frames to make it work, and there's really no *smooth* way to do this... footage will be jittery. Give it a try to see if it's acceptable, and if your OK with it, go for it. I'd stick to a 720 timeline personally, especially for SD dvd's, but again, give it a try and see what you find. What's acceptable to some doesn't cut it for others...

Hey, I did the same thing with HPX and 5D but I shot the HPX-170 at 720p 24p N and the 5D at 24p and log and transfered the 5d files into fcp using the canon E1 plugin - any tips before i start editing on how to best use these two formats in the same project? Thanks!
