HELP! Compressor Problems in FCP4

Hey everyone,

I need some quick help.

I finished a project in FCP4, got ready to export it to the compressor, dialed up my presets, put in a destination and went to click submit... and nothing. The submit button was still shaded grey--it wouldn't let me start my batches!

Thinking it was a problem with the sequence I was exporting, I tried to compress some older sequences that I have exported through compressor before and still nothing.

I have no idea why it won't let me submit. This is the first batch compression I've tried to do since upgrading to Tiger, has anyone else heard of a problem with this?

I greatly appreciate any help, I need to get these projects on DVD asap!

Thanks,

Mike

Chances are you need to upgrade compressor also as you upgraded to Tiger. Same thing happened to me when i upgraded to panther or whatever the last one was.

Go to the apple website and click support link then downloads. Scroll through and hopefully you can find an upgrade for compressor that works in tiger.

Here's hoping you don't need to upgrade to the new final Cut Studio in order to get the compressor upgrade.

I downloaded the updated Compressor 1.2.1 and now the submit button isn't dimmed anymore, but it says "Unable to connect to background processes."

The Apple site says to go forward with a full re-install. Short of a full re-install, any suggestions?

I know that quicktime 7 will not register with my QT pro 6.5 number. and compressor is dependent on quicktime. make sure you are not running a free version of quicktime 7 that installed with the new system. your apps need the pro version. running on the free version will create all kinds of problems. you might try to reinstall the latest version of quicktime pro that you have.

No they don't.

They include all codecs fully exportable. You just can't do it from the QT shell that Apple gives you.

The issue here is more along the lines of permissions. I'd repair permissions and then I'd trash your compressor preferences and start again.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go ahead and get rid of the compressor frameworks and reinstall... but I'll wait until after my projects are due on Saturday--I get really paranoid about screwing things up and not being able to recover my work. Until then, I guess I'll just print to tape.

Thanks for all of the help.

"Unable to connect to background processes."
I have the exact same issue. No I have not installed QT7,Yes I have trashed compressor Plist and repaired disk permissions....no luck WTF!!!!

The dreaded background process error has been around for awhile. Something to do with the embeded Qmaster kernel in Compressor (eventhough it wasn't active until this latest version of final cut studio). Try unplugging your network connection. If that doesn't work, you may have to uninstall then reinstall dvd studio pro (after you've upgraded your quicktime to the latest pro version). Sometimes when you upgrade the os or quicktime after studio pro, it acts funky. I've dealt with it, it's a real pain, I know.
