Help! Compressor and Pixelation shifting problem

Here is my problem. I have encoded a 40 min video mpeg-2 with Compressor 1.2.1 and when I only encode a short clip of the video the "pixelation" I am seeing goes away. When I encode the entire video a strange pixel-shift-effect happens in some of the shots. For instance, the image looks smooth but the pixels in areas shift back and forth giving a kind of repetitive pattern effect. Again, if you look close at the image you can see clusters of pixels shifting from one spot to the other and back again! Weird.

I use 60 min High Quality Encode and leave all the presets alone. I believe the presets leave the bitrate at max 7.5 and Best motion etc. I also use 2-pass encoding...

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it, this thing needs to get sent off today Fedex!

Thanks

I'm having the same problem converting HDV files to DV straight in P.Pro 2.0. The footage is probably doing this because it is not a multiple of 8 pixels. try doing a manual resize, and make sure that the resize of the pixes is a multiple of 8. (From an encoder standpoint, this will probablly eliminate the jitter you are seeing)

Could the admin sticky this thread? I couldn't find this information anywhere.

Does your video look like this, after converting HDV down to SD resolution?

http://www.tavproductions.net/test/Pixel_Shift_Example.avi 7 seconds, MSDV , Watch the shirt for the pixels shifting.

Then try this following to fix your pixel shifting.

Here is my workaround to fix the pixelaiton shifting problem while converting HDV down to DV, or Mpeg2-DVD

1)Drop the file into after effects.

2) Create a new timeline in the resolution you are exporting to (I chose DV Widescreen, so that It can be put to DVD in an anamorphic resolution later However you could potentally fullscreen your projects if you shot them right)

3) Change the scale factor to 46.018518518518518518518518518519% (Copy and paste the number)

4) IN THE PROJECT WINDOW, select the video that you want to be converted, hit mouse2 ---> Interperete footage ---> Main (Or Control+F for you windows users)

5) Tick the preserve edges box, then hit okay

6) Doubble check your work, make sure it is where you want it. There will be a little spill of pixels outside the viewable range, this is okay.

7) Add it to your render queue, Use the DV presets for both render settings and output module.

8) Get a beer, watch the game.

Now this process will take a long time, but it will get you a DV file that will not jitter or what not. Then you can convert it to mpeg-2 in your favorite Mpeg-2 Encoder.

Just to give you an idea of how long it takes a 00;3;48;21 project took 1 hour and 5 minutes to render on a Athlon64 X2 clocked at 2300 Mhz.

I'm not sure how else you can work around this without after effects. If you know, please post it here.

Good Luck.
