A client i'm working on a dvd tour for has asked me to take some of their old training videos which are on VHS and convert them to mpeg for use in a powerpoint presentation and seperate dvds. I have a capture card (ati all in wonder) but i cannot get the damn thing to work, vegas doesn't recognize it. I'm less than satisfied with ati's software. So i'm attempting to use my dvx as a analog to digital pass through. I have a vcr hooked up to the inputs on the dvx then the firewire from the dvx to my computer. But when i go to capture using vegas i heard audio but see no video. A blue screen is displayed on my computer capture window that says "please insert tape" how do i get it to let me capture the video my dvx is outputing from the vcr? I am now trying to use windows movie maker to capture, while it displays video and audio and records i am having problems getting it to record the entire thing and in a format i want. Can someone help me get my lovely vegas to work with this?

You have to be in VCR mode of the DVX. It will act as an analog to digital converter.

However, you may be up against commercial copy protection.

I was in vcr mode. So weird, i got windows movie maker to capture it just fine....eventually. But i couldn't get vegas to let me capture it. I dunno what the deal is.

In the preferences area of Vegas you have to uncheck the enable DV control, this will remove the "please insert tape' message. With this turned off you can use the pass through. Just play your VCR and then use the record function within the Vegas capture.
