HELP! Capture problems!

I have Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 and an analog video capture device which Windows Movie Maker recognizes without any problems. However, when I try to capture video with VMS4.0 it says that it cannot open the device and to check to see if it is turned on or in use by another program. Well it is turned on and is not to my knowledge in use by any other program. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
What analog capture device are you using? The device should be using a firewire connection. If it’s using USB it probably won’t work with Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio. If it’s a card from Pinnacle Systems it also won’t work with Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio (Pinnacle cards are proprietary although I have heard that Windows Movie makers does work some of them).

Thanks JohnnyRoy, It is USB and I ended up just capturing in Windows Movie Maker then importing into Vegas Movie Studio. In the future I will have shoot only DV.
