HELP!Can't hear audio

I am trying to sync my image with sound but I can't hear audio when I preview the timeline. I am at the lowest resolution, I have pressed the space bar and everything under the sun but still can't hear the track. When I preview the track in AE 7 it plays fine.

I have changed all the perferences back and forward. Adjusted all memory cache but still no sound. I am running AE7 on Mac Pro with 2GB of RAM and do not know what to do. I have a huge project due and I could finish in a night but am disabled without hearing what I am going to sync the moves to.

HELP!

To RAM preview, hit 0 on the number keypad.
For quick audio only playback hit the period on the number pad, the audio will load into RAM and playback. You can also hold down the command key and scrub the audio. You can also view the audio waveform which can be helpful if the music has dramatic changes, you can see this on the waveform. A common practice is to preview the audio using one of the methods listed above and add layer markers (* on the number pad) where the music hit occur.

Note - Some audio formats (like MP3) don't play nice with AE. What's the audio format you're working with? AIFF? Wave?

I just rendered a mov without video and used that.

Maybe it is too much for AE to process?

Thanks

be sure that your audio layer is enabled in the layers panel with the little speaker next to it indicating tha the layer is "turned on".
