Very much appreciated. The next step is figuring out how to calibrate my LCD computer monitor, this damn gamma selection is boggling my brain, and pluge seems to give me 1 or 3 bars depending on what monitor it's shown on. sigh

Thanks Jesse. My link actually shows that i followed those steps. The issue is a little more detailed than that. Appreciate the reply though!

The computer lcd won't be the best accurate representation of the color and saturation in your image. Depending on what type (and price paid usually) of lcd we're talking about, your colors and blacks are going to look different based on how you look at the monitor, tilt the screen, etc.

For what it's worth, here's what I do in the studio:
I use FCP with a cinema HD display and a secondary HP lcd for preview. My timeline outputs through a grass valley converter and feeds a Tektronix waveform monitor and vectorscope. The waveform monitor passes thru to a JVC production monitor via the JVC's component card. I calibrate by recording color bars and dropping them onto my timeline. I adjust the JVC monitor per typical color bar adjustment procedure. Then when editing, I color correct or otherwise modify my footage to my desired look (as appears on the JVC) and check my WFM and VS to observe the limits. If my phase is off or levels are over or undersaturated or I simply want to adjust them further, I use the proc amps within FCP to make corrections. I do this mostly for SD work but it gives pretty good reference for HD also. For broadcast output the WFM and VS ensure your levels are legal.

Maybe this will help you out some.
