Help building a $600 editing pc

Hello everybody, as you can tell I am a noob to building computers in general. I have done some research but I need help building a budget editing PC.

Budget: $600 CAD (Shipped Preferably)

Applications: I will be editing HD AVCHD footage. But I can download Cineforem Neoscene to make it easier on the PC. I will be using Sony Vegas 9, Adobe After Effects CS4, Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom.

Native Monitor Resolution: I do not have a monitor ATM but I suppose I could buy a CHEAP one to the specs.

Things I can reuse: I have my Mom`s old Dell Dimension 8300 but I think it would make more sense to sell it for money towards the build.

Extras: A monitor would be nice, I have a brand new Dell keyboard and mouse that came with my Moms new computer.

I looked into it and so far what I have been able to pick out are a mobo, cpu and case. Im not sure if they are right for the job though.

I am located in North Bay, Ontario Canada

I build all my computers. I recently built a new 6 core rig and so far I'm loving it! I'm using Sony Vegas Plat HD 10 and it runs smooth as butter.

Bad part is my system costs substantially more then $600
Your tiger direct links don't work. I buy my stuff from Newegg.com.

AMD Phenom II X6 3.2 gig ---------------------------------------------------- $295
Mother Board ASUS M4A79T deluxe ------------------------------------------ $159
16 gigs GSKILL DDR3 1600 -----------------------------------------------------$549
WD VelociRaptor 300gig --------------------------------------------------------$179
WD external 1 TB My book -----------------------------------------------------$169
Video card (no recommendation, but should find something for about)--------$150
Antec 300 (I love this case) -----------------------------------------------------$59
Power supply (buy a quality supply, around 750W should be fine) -------------$100
..........................................................................................................total $1660
Now obviously 16 gigs is a luxury and you don't need an external HD and the VelociRaptor but I got the Raptor 1st and then added the external so I could archive old projects and transport media to other places. I also have dual BenQ 22" monitors, the combo works out well for me.

Here is a budget build I came up with (no monitor).
AMD Phenom II X6 2.8 gig -----------------------------------------------------$199
Mother Board ASUS M4A87TD EVI---------------------------------------------$100
16 gigs of Gskil DDR3 1066 ----------------------------------------------------$379
WD 1TB 1001FALS 7200 RPM --------------------------------------------------$87
Video card (no recommendation find something decent for around) ----------$150
Case (can buy a budget case for around $40 or less) -------------------------$40
Power supply (can buy an off brand for around $65) --------------------------$65
---------------------------------------------------------------------------Total $1020

Not quite the $600 you were asking for but that's as low as I would got for video editing. You could possible only use 8 gig of ram and save another $150 but I'm a big believer in LOTS of ram. Also don't forget to add in the cost for the OS (windows 7).

I got all prices off Newegg 9-21-2010. Maybe someone could piece together a nice Intel system for around the same. I personally use AMD just because I like AMD and have had good luck with them. The top of the line Intel's are faster but also cost a lot more $$$. Anyway hopefully this gives you some ideas. But I think $600 for everything will be a little tight.

This one is closer to your budget, and includes an operating system.

$850 - HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235f Desktop PC, AMD Phenom II 1035T Six-Core Processor (2.60GHz), 8GB DDR3 Memory, 1TB HDD, ATI Radeon HD 5570, Blu-Ray/DVD Super Multi-Drive, 802.11b/g/n, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - BK450AA#ABA

But I doubt you can get $250 for your old Dell, and you'd still need a monitor.

This is my PC

It's not mindblowingly great, but for $500 shipped, it's pretty nice.
2.5GHz Quad core 2
1tb hard drive
8gb ram

Edit: Not a fan of the video card. It's not necessary to upgrade immediately, but eventually you'll want to.

Here is the final setup, I just need to know if it will all run together or needs any tweaking.

You don't need a video card if you don't have a monitor. All joking aside, you need a video card or video on the motherboard. You might have a hard time playing 1080P and AVCHD with integrated video.

Seems kinda silly to buy screws. I'd be surprised if your drives and case didn't include them.

I don't see an operating system.

That motherboard is only an AM2+ socket so it's unclear if you will be able to upgrade the CPU in a year or 2 to the latest. 4GB of ram is a little light but I understand you are trying to keep it under $600. I think the graphic card will be fine for video editing and light gaming. The internal card reader is NICE! I recently installed one made by Roswell and can't believe I didn't buy one sooner.

Corsair generally make good power supplies so that's good, 430 watts is on the light side. I have a 750 watt but I tend to go overkill. Right now my system is only pulling 182 watts at idle but I have seen it peak at over 300 watts. In the past when I skimped on power supplies I would get random crashes so now I go overkill and my systems seem more stable. I usually go 3X what I think the system will pull at max. You should be fine at 430 watts but depending on how much stuff you add later you might be cutting it close.

Don't forget the case and OS but I think that will be a decent running system.
