wtf! how hard can it be!
every program has a 4 point garbage matte that you can reverse and this crap of Premiere doesn't have a reverse button! unbelievable!

I am so frustrated right now for not doing this edit in Vegas :badputer:

can someone please help me out?

how do I cut a square out of black video on the timeline?

like when I add the matte in the middle of the screen I have a black square right in the middle.
I want to reverse that so the black square is transparent and the edges are black, like a border

Wait, upon re-reading it, if I understand you right, it's simple. Use the "crop" effect on whatever piece of video you want to cut out. If your timeline has multiple pieces of video/titles/etc., and you want to crop the whole thing, create a second timeline. Insert the timeline you want to apply the effect to into the new timeline and apply the crop effect to that.

[edit] don't bother with using a piece of black video or a black matte... just apply the crop effect directly to the piece of video or timeline you want the border around. [edit]

nope, I want to cut a square hole on the black video that is on the upper track so that what is on the lower track can show through that window.

ok I see...
I will nest the one I have and apply the crop to the new nested sequence.
That should work,
thanks!
