I just got a macbook to go along with my imac. I installed Final cut studio and it was working fine. Now when I try to open Final Cut Pro it says that the program quit unexpectedly. I have tried reinstalling just final cut pro and its still doing the same thing. i cant open it at all. All the other programs (soundtrack, motion, ect.) do open though. Any suggestions

Zap PRAM:

Reboot, then as soon as you hear the startup 'bong', hold down these four keys: Command-Option-P-R. It will bong again. And again. Continue to hold down these four keys until it has 'bonged' a total of three times (the initial startup bong and two more after you hold down those four keys).

Do you have any wild codecs installed? Try removing any non standard codecs from /Library/Quicktime and see if that works ...

This happened to one of our Macs once and I had to get rid of some final cut preference files that had become corrupted. Look for this in your user library:
Preferences>Final Cut User Data>Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset (and the cache also...Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.fcpch) Get rid of both along with the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist that sits out in the main preference directory.
You will lose all your custom settings when you do this.

I don't think reinstalling actually replaces these files so it might be why your reinstalli didn't work.

BTW, I recently learned that the intel Macs do not really have actual PRAM although the old four key combo will reset the NVRAM...Non-Volatile RAM, which is essentially the same thing. I guess they didn't want to change the key combo to Command-Option-N-V although that would seem to provide less finger contortion.:-).

There is also something called the System Management Controller (SMC) which also can be reset to fix some system wide problems. This controls the fans, video, sleep issues etc. Here's the apple article:

Thanks guys but nothing helped the problem. Since I just got it and fortunately had done nothing on it, I just reinstalled OSX and then put Final Cut back in and it works. Very wierd and I hope it doesnt happen again.
