Help before I go crazy....

I used DVDSP and I set my settings and clicked burn. I did not put any menus or anything because I don't need them. SO after hours of waiting for the thing to burn, to my great surprise I test the DVD and theres NOTHING on it. It does not play anything on a standard DVD player. Why me???

Maybe I missed something, but here's the workflow...

Edit in FCP. Export your Timeline(s) to a QT Movie from FCP. Then open that QT file in QTPro and Export it to an MPEG2 (like I described earlier). Then import into DVDSP. Drag those files into the DVDSP flowchart, and then you have to set something as a First Action on the DVD...like tell it to play the movie as it's first action.

you have to set your first play on your asset in DVDSP.
Use the simulate button to play as it would on a real DVD to check your work.
DVDSP is very easy..but it's not IDVD. It's more powerful but you need to slow down and think about what you are doing.
1. Make self contained QT in FCP or export into compressor selecting fast encode 90 minutes. adjust your bit rate abit lower to fit more data. Select ac2 or aif for audio etc
2 import into DVDSP, highlight asset, select play first or something along that line.
3. put onto timeline, again put a chapter mark and select first play
4. check with simulator to see if it plays correctly
5. make disc
6. relax
I've put 2.5 - 3 hours on a 4.7 DVD.

You actually don't even have to make the QT file self contained. I usually just export the MPG file from FCP using Compressor though.

You don't have to make it self contained but I find it a bit more stable this way Bob. Palace films did you read the article by Larry Jordan I posted, that breaks it down for you.:)

Yes I did...thank you! That was very helpful.

I figured my way out of the problems I was having. It took WAY too many hours than it should have but what can you do. You live and learn. It just gets strenuous when working under a deadline.

Thanks for all the help!
