Help! Avid Bay Rental vs. FCP home setup

I've just finished a 35mm short that I plan to edit on either Avid or Final Cut on then take back to film. I've already telecine transferred over to both Digibeta and DV media. I've worked with Avid in the past, but am looking for my best alternative considering short term and LT money issues, i.e. I have none. An Avid bay is gonna cost me a grand+ a week minimum. What will it cost me to set up a home FCP system with the bare essentials? I don't have a MAC, so it'll be MAC, FCPro or Studio (back to film after editing) software and input/output deck + firewire (as I don't have a camera). Any guidance would be hugely appreciated.

For the price, you'd be best to rent the avid. I'd choose FCP, but it would be much more cash for your project. You'd drop about 5 grand on a mac with monitor, another 1300 on Final Cut Studio, another 1500 or so on a Kona2 card with breakout box, then plus the cost of renting decks.

Adds up.
