HELP!! Attempting to capture VHS through the DVX

I don't have a video card in my system (on my to-do list), so I'm trying to capture a client's VHS into Vegas.

I've got the VHS running through my DVX in/out AV, then firewired into my PC. It will show the video for a SECOND in my preview window, then goes blank but continues to preview the audio through my PC.

If I have no tape in my DVX, then it says to insert a tape. If I insert a tape, then it will show the VHS footage in my preview, but the moment I go to capture, it will begin to capture the tape in my DVX, not the VHS in the VCR.

What's going on? I know there's a way to do this, and am not finding it.

I'll try that for the next tape ... for now, I've resorted to capturing through my DVX using Microsoft's Movie Maker that came with XP ... YECH! Never thought I'd see myself using that software! :)

Thanks for the tip though, Greg, I'll give it a shot on the next one.

eek! movie maker! I just fired it up for the first time to take a look - good luck!

It should be the 'enable dv device control' thats screwing you up. I ran into this a while back when doing the same thing with my old sony DV cam. Unchecked that setting and, viola!

It _should_ be the same issue. Please let us know what you figure out - I don't have a VCR at my disposal at the moment to try it with my newly purchased DVX.

BINGO! Greg, you're awesome, thanks!

Movie Maker actually came to the rescue, but I'll never admit that beyond this thread. It's working just great through Vegas' capture now, just the way I like it!

Thanks again.
