Help - Alpha channel element dissolving oddly

Are you mixing compositions with differing frame rates? The clip you posted (cool parralax by the way) apart from the missing element at the end, I don't see what you are meaning.

Do you mean the foreground trees fading quicker that the background trees? Is that whole element fading too quickly?

Did you copy and paste opacity keyframes, and if so, did you do so at the marker point in the composition which can sometimes throw off their placement?

Are you working with the background and foreground trees in their own comp and nested/precomposed?

I'm not sure what to look for, other than the foreground and background tree elements, and that looks like a simple opacity falloff keframing issue. Maybe you used easy ease on one set of keyframes and not another?

Yes... that's it. And no... all the same keyframes. 100 to 0 all at the same time. Almost looks like a precomp issue, but it's in 3d space and gets goofy when I try to comp the layers. Also thought maybe a premult issue... but can't figure how to fix.

Thanks for the look...

I think I know what's doing it. They are both falling off at the same rate, but as the foreground trees fall off, you can see through them! So, there is the illusion they are falling off faster, against a background. You're not doing anything wrong, and in fact, if you look towards the end of the clip you posted, even after the background has fallen out completely, you can catch a glimpse of the right foreground tree element.

You can avoid the opacity issues by not having them fall off at all as individual layers, precomposing them, and then have an opacity falloff for the new composition. It'll work the way you want it to.

Nope -- ended up just adding a black solid toward the top and changing ITS opacity from 0-100. worked well enough.

Odd still.

Thanks

At least you got the results you wanted, that's the important thing.

Still, it sure gets irritating when something SHOULD work, but just won't.

Nice workaround. I dunno if I would have thought of that.

I figure that the Alpha channel has to fade too... hence the 'see thru' nature of the elements.

Ugh, I wish I knew a quick fix for that. Happens in Shake too.
