shooting an event with dvx100b. there will be a series of Djs, an MC as well I will be shooting a couple of quick interviews with various guests.

im planning to rent a wireless lav so i can get clean audio from the dj's turntables: (ive copy pasted the item)

Mic - Sony 805 Wireless #2

WRT-805 body pack transmiter

WRR-805 receiver

ECM-122 lapel microphone
^^^will this be sufficient? ive never really used one before? do u basically plug it in the xlr output in camera and input into Dj's console?

and for the interviews? should i get another lav? shotgun mic?
i guess the djs eill be on audio channel 1 and the interviews on channel 2 of the camera?

help! im so confused about audio!

You can mic people with the lav for the interviews no problem. It will work well in a loud club.

Why would you use a wireless lav for turntables?

Check out our advice about Jay's books here, you will need them.

You don't plan on doing interviews while the DJs are playing are you?

yeah i do plan to interview while the Dj is playing, at least a bit. i wont really have a choice in the matter.
im actually on the "search" option trying to get as much info as i can for shooting live events.

what would u recommend to use to get the audio from the DJs?

Why not just record a stereo line out send from the DJ's mixer to a small stereo recorder? If you send it to the camera via the wireless, you'll have to sum it to mono in order to have a track left over for your interview dialogue.

like a mini disc recorder?

just for my 5cents, a lav over a handheld is not an accurate comparison - some lavs are as open sounding as shotguns. and in a club environment, thats not even your number one concern - max spl before the mic itself overloads is something to consider - some sensitive lavs can even pop in very loud spl. this is where a handheld (a la RE50) is a super valuable tool...

Don't use a lav, trust me, it will be a nightmare for you. Why?, it will pick up everything you don't want to, You will have the worst sound possible.
Use a handheld mic, it will eliminate all the ambient noise the best, and get the best sound from your talent.
Keep it isolated on one channel of your camera audio input. Send the audio from the house mixer to the second channel of your camera audio in. Make sure you keep these isolated. (keep channel one panned to one side while channel 2 is completely panned to the other.)
You are going to have a major problem doing your interviews in a loud environment like that. If possible get your talent as far away from the noise as possible.

If you don't need stereo from the house mixer (Dj) then use the sum line out from the mixer to your camera. (or your wireless transmitter)(the receiver would feed the camera)
If you must have stereo (can't see why, I really doubt that the house mix is in stereo anyway) then use a stereo line out to a minidisk recorder, (these are awesome recorders) then edit it in later.
That would give you the ability to move around. Which you probably will want to do.
