Help! 5.1.3 can't see my firewire cam

I'm using a G4 dual 867, (mirror door)
with 2 g's memory, and it's mostly worked fine. I moved our 1 terabyte drive from a friends house to mine to keep editing at home, and we both upgraded to 5.1.3 to make sure we're on the same version. It pushes mine pretty hard, but works, but I so far ignored that it won't play through to a firewire cam (even though it does see the drive). It's not the jack because when individually plugged in they each work but when both are in it only sees the drive. Now that I want to output something I can't since it won't find the camera. It says it doesn't see any "apple firewire", and on startup it won't find a device no matter how many times or restarts. I tried dumping the preferences, but that crippled final cut alltogether so I finally got final cut to work again but it still won't find my camera. What could it be? any suggestions?
thanks

What camera are you using? It's an imporant part to offering a solution. If its HDV go under easy setup and pick the right format. If you have it setup through defaults and you're trying to do HDV it won't recognize it.

Sounds like a very similar problem I was having with my machine, try this...

1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).

2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed. Move Quicktime from your apps to the trash.

3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.

4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCP or FCE and see your camera.

Give this a try and see if it works for you, it worked fine for me... It has something to do with a bug in Quicktime.

I've seen this problem on a G5. The solution that I was told is that the FW400 port on the front (G5) and the one on the back are on the same "bus". I was trying to use a camera and a drive at the same time, different ports, and it was doing the same thing. This was with 5.1.2 so I don't know if this is the same situation but it sounds similar.
