Hi all,

Been lurking and reading for a while, and finally making the jump. I'm fairly new to the film world and at this point just plan to do it as a hobby. Most of what I plan to do is going to be outdoor filming. I recently purchased a Sony EX1 with a Sennheiser MKE600 shotgun mic on a Manfrotto 502HD head and am going through the learning stages as fast as possible. I got tired of not having quality footage and decided that this was the year to stop using mediocre equipment. Hopefully I've made a good choice in my equipment so far and look forward to picking up more from the masterminds on this site.

Hi Rodney,
I don't believe you can go wrong with Sony and Sennheiser. As with any gear just test and practice in the field to get proficient. Depending on what you're filming outdoors, however, the lack of a chageable lens with the EX1 may be somewhat limiting but the image quality will be great.
