Hello Everyone

This is the first post of a long time lurker and hobbyist having shot and edited a few music vids, short films and interviews. As an intro and so you get an idea of my level, here are a couple of shoots I've done stuff on which hopefully aren't completely terrible (although they are technically not great):

https://vimeo.com/65203591 - short film I produced and co-directed and hoping to get into a couple of festivals.
Password: Finding Angels

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYNrFPTQqVI - cheesy music vid I've just finished editing. It was one of those no-budget, shot in a 'working pub' (no light control), the band was a bunch of guys randomly roped in who could hold instruments and the extras were just the hardest-looking bunch of bikers we could get our hands on at short notice. It will give you an idea loosely of what I've been doing.

Am directing a music vid tomorrow and the DoP will have his (and my hands) on a BMCC for the first time! Really excited to get a little bit hands-on. Naturally, the DoP will be doing all the shooting but I haven't even seen one close up yet. Just hope we don't mess it up.

Anyhow, I hope to be able to contribute in something or other going forward.

All the best

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum for a fellow brit in Co Durham although most of my working life has been spent in London.

Enjoy your time here and good luck with the shoot on the BMCC.

I am seeing flash frames on every cut point of the first film Finding Angels were they meant to be there as they just look like mistakes to me and some of the motion looks a bit strange, was it shot 24p? also some of the sound jumps around a bit from left to centre. Watch the shallow DOF too as on a big screen it looks too much at times and the opening credit was too quick for my old eyes to read all the words.

As for the music vid she looks like my type of girl !

seriously appreciate the time restraints but once again watch that shallow DOF as the shot on the drummer 75% of the frame centre out of focus with the bass far right was just too distracting to me.

Thanks Gary and glad you like Kacey. If you have a Harley, some tattoos and a leather fetish, I'll have to hook you up with her!

In terms of errors, I like to think of all my mistakes as learning experiences. I was terrible when I started and although I'm still terrible but at least I know I'm terrible!

Incidentally, the flash frames / motion were... well, it's who he is and this was a risk in the interest of art. I wouldn't take that kind of risk on a commercial shoot!

It's that fine line of an effect or if you end up with a train spotter like me thinking it is a fault but I always feel that any visual or sound should be complimentary to the story and not become the story itself!
