Hi! It's been a while since I have posted here, but I have been on the road working on my newest film. I just took the plunge and decided to get rid of my tried and true HVX200 (had her since 06 and clocked close to 3000 hours on her) and just ordered a Gh2 body, which I am really excited for. Now the thing comes back to the editing room as usual. I think it is FINALLY time to get a new laptop for the road. 2.1 ghz core duo dell just isn't cutting the mustard, and never really has. Since all my footage will no longer include pani p2 I am finally making the leap from using premiere pro and vegas side by side to just vegas. I need to find the cheapest laptop (must be laptop or really power efficient desktop that I can power and edit in my rv) that will efficiently edit gh2 footage (will be hacked probably running about 44 mb/s) with out me hating the world. The main thing is I need to be able to get work done and not fight with machines. (hence why dumping premiere pro) Will an i5 laptop with about 2.0 ghz at 4gb of ram do the trick? Any input would be handy. Price is an issue as I am funding this project completely out of pocket. Thanks for the years the of advice and helping turn me from a kid with a camera to an actual filmmaker doing what I love for a living.

An i5 rig will do, but there might be some stuttering and preview issues. The extra money spent on an i7 with it's +4 threads and the capacity for up to 12 to 16GB of RAM may be worth the extra money spent, and could also extend your upgrade cycle.
