Hello, General Question about Cameras

Hello,

I am new user of the forum. Despite the fact I have been visiting this forum for the last year almost on daily basis. I found this forum and the members to be very professional and helpful. I learned lot about Video technology. I do not have any professional camera now, however, I am planning to buy one.

My only hesitation with current brands of cameras is the storage media: Tape. I wonder if in the future, there will be new cameras that can store the raw data on a DVD (4.5 GIGS), or even dual-layer DVD (9GIGS) instead of tape.

Will they ever make something like this. Would it be feasable and professional.

Hello again.

Re: Hello, General Question about Cameras

The professional cameras are already moving in that direction, Panasonics DVCPRO P2 is solid-state memory with no moving parts and no “consumed” media; Sony has the XDCAM, which I believe can record both DVCAM and IMX (Mpeg compressed). Both of these camera systems are north of $25K and designed for ENG production.

Like anything there are pro’s and con’s to these systems – currently the memory cards are cost prohibitive and volatile – if there is a problem for any reason with the memory the chances are good that all of the content will be lost, but the original DVCPRO quality can be seamlessly connected to any number of NLE’s. Of course, your production vehicle can run over your tapes.

There are some consumer camera’s that record directly to a DVD, but remember this is MPEG compressed and probably won’t give you the quality required for “Cine” production.

Anyway, it’s all good… ;D

I think Arri just made a hard drive for their cameras. You can use regular 35mm film cameras and you just slide the hard drive where the magazine would normally go.

How do you do, as possible find the drawing of the rifle butt to Panasonic AG-DVX100A?

Re: Hello, General Question about Cameras

Thanks guys. I kept seeing this stuff everywhere, but didn't know what it was.

Thanks for clearing that up.

All the best
