Hello from Toronto, Canada!

Hi my name is Gary and I've been filming and editing stuff since I was a young kid. I'm always browsing this forum and other websites to learn about stuff and watch videos. I guess you can say the one YouTube channel that got me more into film production is FreddieW and Film Riot.

Today I cover local and school events such as talent shows and local conventions such as Anime North (which I'm planning on going to this year). Recently I went to cover a rather interesting convention in Toronto in March and a day 1 video montage is coming out soon (like today, Friday Night).

You can check out my channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ProTekProductions

Here's my most recent video (as of this post)

There isn't much right now but I've done enough projects that are scattered around YouTube. This channel has the stuff that I worked on and can upload recently.

I run around with DSLRs since they are so good for photos and videos and it's a nice combo. I use DIY and hacked stuff often like a tripod as a stabilizer which works to an extent and a fig rig. I know my stuff when it comes to film making, story telling, cinematography, cameras (mainly DSLRs) and post-production, but I'm constantly learning. Years of muscle memory have been in place with Canon lenses and I might end up switching to Nikon where everything is the reverse so if I do go for Nikon, I wouldn't be able to pull focus without going back and forth. #firstworldproblems

I do not own my own camera, rather my own gear besides the camera because I'm still in the market. I've borrowed several cameras from several people on several occasions and I have the general ability to adapt to any camera, set up or system.

So like yeah, I decided to make a dvxuser account after lurking enough and finding out that a lot of the people here are locals too in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and I'll be around!

Cheers,
Gary

Welcome to the forum Gary and I spent a happy few days in Toronto way back in 1994 when I worked for AMS Neve, got to see the Blue Jays victory parade with CBC and then flew to Vancouver for a few days training the guys at Dick and Rogers dubbing studios!

Whenever you can, come back to Toronto for a vacation!

Hi, Gary at ProtekProductions

I am based in Montreal.

Impressive that you can adapt to any camera.

I did photo for a number of years, then nothing for another period of time. I went to video about 3 years ago and like that very much.

My work is restricted to stage events, music events, documentaries and commercial training videos.

I have an invite to cover a music competition comprising something like 40 events of 3-4 minutes each over two days - I don't see how I could do 20 recordings, titling/credit rolls, rendering, burning and label application per day (the client wants to give out a disc to each participanting group on the same day as they are competing).

Any ideas, anyone?

I think I would need 2 cameras, a bunch of SD cards, 3 editing/rendering computers with 3 operators, 1 QA/label person with a computer/printer, plus one coordinator (7 people in all) to take this on.
