Hellboy II: The Golden Army

That was a bad ass little teaser there.

Did you know they're already in pre-pro for HellBoy III? After he takes out the whole Golden Army apparently he takes a Golden sho... show... I can't do it.

That promo was awesome... I love the HellBoy concept... high hopes for the sequel... the first one? Um... yeah... agreed... great at times. At least HellBoy isn't CGI... so for me that's a step in the right direction.

I loved the first Hellboy, mostly because of Ron Perlman, but I see two potential problems with this one. First, the trailers make it look way too much like Pan's Labyrinth, and I've never even seen that movie to know whether it's good or bad, but I just don't see why he thinks he needs to take this movie in that direction. Second, he's letting Doug Jones do Abe's voice, and (based on the first animated thing they did) Doug's not bad, but he's no Miles. ;)

But I'll be there opening weekend regardless of those quibbles, because I don't see how this can be all that bad. :D

I always wanted to like the first one, but dont. I watch it about once a year hoping I somehow "get it" this time. I dont.

I LOVED Pan's Labyrinth, however, the creatures in this Hellboy are too Pan's Labyrinthian for my taste. To me it shows a LACK of creativity while Pan showed alot. If you are that creative, do something NEW.

The first Hellboy was totally underrated. I thought it was the 4th best comic film produced over the last decade, outside of X-Men, Iron Man and Batman Begins. Can't wait for this next one, though the characters are seriously nudging too close to looking like pans labyrinth characters, for obvious reasons.

Saw it today. For those who think its like Pans Labyrinth, thats incorrect, its NOWHERE near as dark as it, not even close. In fact, it is very comedic throughout alot of the film. It was a fun film and I enjoyed it, but it didn't live up to my expectations of a rich "superhero" film. They hardly took anytime to really analyze Hellboy's charactor, and charactor development in general was shoddy, and sometimes a little unbelivable. It had some elements of the story that were rather silly.

Visually, it is similar to Pan's. But it stops there. Overall it was decent, entertaining but forgettable in my opinion.

Del Toro's imagination is nothing short of amazing, and he gets major props from me for that. The characters, the scenery, and some great shots/ideas
But yeah - the development of characters was weak and awkward at many times (the "romantic" parts were never effective, unless they were suppose to be funny in the first place)

I went into this movie wanting to be convinced by it that he is worthy of doing a huge and prestigious project like The Hobbit (one of my fav books)
I dunno...still uneasy about it...here's hoping for the best

I loved Hellboy II. I thought it was just as good as the first. Del Toro did a great job with it. I'd really like to see a Hellboy III.

wow criticizing the characters? Given that it's a superhero movie, I thought they were incredibly humanized, deep, and real. I cared for each one of them and was greatly entertained by their personal journeys, and sacrifices. I was able to just immerse myself in the story and go with it. PLUS the action was way cool and actually had human beings performing skilled choreography! What a treat! Suck on that Iron Man, you fake, formulaic, unimaginative bore!

dude Abe Sapien drinking Tecate with his best friend and singing about his crush. Not loving that is like burning the flag as far as I'm concerned.

Saw it today, and loved it. :D While I think that the Chamberlain and the other Doug Jones creature toward the end had a very Pan's Labyrinth look, it was in look only--the tone of the film, as Daryl Auguste said, remains true to the first.

One thing I don't get, though--Hellboy drinks light beer? What the heck is up with that? ;)

I liked the first and liked this one just about as much. It's great to see an artist like del Toro get a budget to run wild with. Just loved sitting back and peeking into the guy's skull.

I think for a sequel it did a good job and I was entertained. There was a lot of silly parts (on purpose I believe) and the only scenes really that I didn't like where the very first ones when Hellboy was a young scrubber. The dub (or acting) on the boy was terrible and kinda felt way too cheese (or was it plastic?) to me. That only amounted to about 5 minutes though and otherwise I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Comparing this to Pan's Labyrinth isn't really fair. Both feature creatures and monsters and that's about it, personally I could handle seeing a del Toro creature feature (with heart!) every couple years.
