Helicopter cam????

Hey Has anyone ever tried modifying a remote controlled helicopter and attaching their camera to it?

I'm not planning on trying it or anything, I've never even used or seen a toy helicopter up close. So I'm not sure how effective it would be.

Plus I don't have the disposable funds to try it.........

But just curious

I don't know for a fact, nor have I tried it, but I would imagine a camera might be too heavy for a remote control toy helicopter to be able to lift and fly with.

Yeah i figured the camera would be to heavy. But Maybe if you beefed the helicopter up with MORE POWER! A la Tim Talyor.

I wouldn't want to risk my camera but shots from a remote control helicopter would really be awesome I'd imagine. If it was steady and what not.

I've seen the pro's use a toy like this in hollywood budgeted flicks but wondered if and indie's tried it.

Thanks guys.

When i was at NAB, i saw a remote controlled helicopter that had a Canon GL2 on the front of it, mounted in some sort of spherical motorized unit. I forgot to ask who made it, but if anyone has any ideas? The Gl2 may not be very heavy, but an HV20 would probably also work, which would make for some amazing shots.

Two problems:

1) helicopters of any sort are really difficult to control
2) video/film cameras are heavy

Those two problems mean that you end up with a fairly large, powerful flying device that has the potential to hurt people. Now, if you had some sort of reliable method of transmission, you could probably do it with a lipstick camera and an offboard recorder on a much smaller chopper. So you're left somewhere between these two choices, I reckon:
