Heinz commercial experiment

As i look through the ads of Heinz ketchup competition it strikes me that there is a kind of collective consciousness where a bunch of people come up with seemingly original ideas all at the same time. You also start noticing that people have certain preconceptions of what works and what doesn't. So here is a little rundown:

-- people love to pretend how good the ketchup tastes by itself -- there is an abandouncae of ads with people pouring the ketchup in their mouths as if it was some kind of soft drink;

-- people love to use the ketchup in ways it was not intended to... they love to put the ketchup on parts of their bodies as if it was some kind of fetish substance;

-- people love to play spin the bottle with their ketchups;

-- people love to tell their children to "lie" on camera by pretending how much they love the ketchup;

-- people love to create a fake drama as if lack of ketchup was a reason to kill themselves;

...keep on adding.

i had two solid concepts in my mind, but i never shot anything. the first was going to be called "ketchup cooler". basically a manager tries to improve office morale by replacing the water cooler with a cooler filled with heinz. hilarious reactions by the employees ensue.

the second was to recreate a scene of the man with the last bottle of heinz. i wanted to do a scene very similar to that of the opening of "28 weeks later".

unfortunately i'm a lazy bastard and didn't tape anything.

Again this thread is not about bashing ideas but your 2 ideas fall under: "pouring tons of ketchup down people's throats" and "fake drama as if lack of ketchup was a reason to kill themselves." This contest is fascinationg from this standpoint.

in the first one they wouldn't have been drinking it. valid point about the second one though.

patryk, do you have an ad?

Wow, this was going to be the one I shot in LA and then I got lazy as well. Funny that after watching many of the commercials, themes do tend to repeat. i am happy to say that the more original Heinz ads I have seen came from Dvxuser.

That was pretty funny actually. And very original.

I didn't do one, but my concept was about how Heinz is an American icon like Cocoa Cola, Apple Pie, hot dogs, baseball, etc.

I wanted to do various ethnic and geographic families in America at the dinner table having large family dinners at their various houses and match cut passing the ketchup bottle amongst the different families at their respective locations.

Nothing as revolutionary as the cow in hell. Just families of all backgrounds, beauty shots, white table cloths, moving music ... "Heinz. An American Tradition Since (whenever)" or something like that.

Note: Views expressed in hypothetical commercial to hypothetically win 57K and hypothetically sell ketchup do not necessarily reflect the political views or cynicism of the poster. :thumbsup:

i thought it was original, entertaining, and very well done overall.

i also don't think heinz would ever use it. no food company wants to associate its brand with images of a cow having his eyes bulge out of his head and snot shoot from his nose as he is burned alive.

lol sorry Patryk_Rebisz, he is right.

guys, did thread isn't about my spot (that i fully stand behind btw -- as obviusly i concidered your issues before filming) but over all themes that emerge.

each one my heniz commericals are like that. hey it better than the other crap.

Mine is very different but I still have to shoot it. I got too busy to shoot for the contest but the idea is good enough to spec anyways. Logistically its a casting nightmare, I need 4 generations of males and females that look the same.
