HEEEELP -- RAW pics from my Canon 300D

Hey all --

My wife's gonna kill me. I finally figured out how to shoot in RAW on my Digital Rebel. I got some great shots of her and our new boy.

Trouble is, I havent finally figured out how to pull them off the camera.

I mean, how do I get on the flash card and pull them off?

Mac OSX
Photoshop CS

Oh -- what's a twain driver and where can I get one? Is that what I need? Every other time I'd just let iPhoto3 pull them off.

Thanks

Unless I'm missing something, all you need is to either hook your camera up directly to your computer through a usb cable supplied by the camera manufacturer, or use a card reader thats available at any comp store like Comp USA. You will need a RAW converter software, that is usually supplied by the camera manufacturer, or comes with the latest version of PhotoShop. (CS) RAW files, to be used normally, have to be converted to either TIFFS or JPGS. I am a professional still photographer and shoot RAWs daily. Let me know if this answer doesn't work, or make sense, and I'll try to help you more. Don't worry, its pretty easy.

Thanks, ppt --

I thought it was rather easy, but I just can't find where to even look for them.

I've got the camera hooked up thru the usb, but the only app that can 'see' the camera is iPhoto. My workflow has been importing the card into iPhoto and then Photoshop-File Browser to open in photoshop.

What am I missing in Photoshop? I can't even get Photoshop to see the OTHER photos on the card.

Maybe I should start here...

How do I get any photos off my camera inside Photoshop?

Thanks again for the help.

Ok -- Frustration is setting in.

I've got the newest plugin... I just cannot find the picture files.

Please?

Step by step?
Here's what I know so far...
Plug in Camera
Turn on Camera
Open Photoshop CS
then...

I'm sorry --

Do the raw files appear on your flash card? I mean do they actually appear on your computer? After you install that camera raw plugin it should simply be a matter of opening raw files in photoshop.

If your camera isn't showing up on your computer you could check for driver updates or as already mentioned pick up a flash card reader.

I just looked on Canon's website at your model and it says,
NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of the File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader.

Here's the link:

You're going to have to either bite the bullet and pick up a card reader or use Canon's Image Browser software.

THANKS!!

I'm trying to find a Firewire card reader anyway. I'll go that route.

Thanks again,

Re: HEEEELP -- RAW pics from my Canon 300D

I still use a usb card reader. They are about $20 at Comp USA. I have my Mac set up to actually open the images in Apples Image Capture software. I plug in the reader, stick in the card, and Image capture recognizes it and opens. I then name a folder on the desktop, typically client name and date. then I click on download and it opens the RAWs into that folder. I then click on them one at a time and they open into PhotoShop RAW converter, where you can make adjustments, and then go to "save as" and save then as tifs into the same folder. Then you have the original RAW still for future use, and a TIF file for further adjustments or imediate use. I also usually make 100dpi jpgs for e mailing or PowerPoint shows. The usb reader I use downloads 19 images, at 17mb each, from a 256mb compact flash card in about 2 minutes or less. Hope this helps.
