Heavy Noise boom Problem :(

Hi Dre!

I think that It might be related with two factors, a very sensistive microphone and a not so good preamp stage (maybe it´s my unit).

The mic work flawesly in another system, so, that´s not the problem. The boompole and the shockmount also perform as supposed.

Now, I turned down the trim input, and turn up the recording level, the noise isn´t there anymore, but the FR2le meters doesn´t reach -12dB.

Best Regards to All.

Do you have a -10dB pad on the octava ?

Yes, I do.. do you think that I should use it, even when it´s not completly necessary?

Thanks Dre.

The -10dB pad cuts everything, desired signal as well as noise. Useful for handling high signal levels but won't help much reducing handling noise etc. For that you need to selectively cut the noise frequencies without affecting the desired signal at all, if possible. A high pass filter, on the other hand, might help. Engage the HPF on your mixer if you have one.

Have you checked stupid things like AGC is off (automatic gain control) and things like limiters, phantompower is 48v... ?

-10dB is more or less used in situations with more "heavy" sounds. Or in a scene when someone is shouting and the mic itself is distorted.

Yes, I checked those, when I put the -10dB it´s way better. I recorded without limiters.

The Pad really helps to that particulary noise, so.. in resume: three factors,

* Bad Mixture between Trim Control and Record Level.
* No pad.
* Mic that´s very sensitive.

Thank guys, now.. I´m more calm, I tough that the fostex was the problem.

Best Regards.
