Heath Ledger Dead

wow that's a great article. Such an amazing actor, gone way too early. Sounds like from the accounts of others he was quite amazing just as a human too. Sad.

jesus. i was fine until the end. the sentiment conjured with that last image damn near brought about the waterworks.

This is such a bizzare thing.

People, like myself, who don't give a **** about celebrities ae genuinly moved by this guy dying.

WTF is that about?

Yeah I feel the same way rook - I usually dont keep up with celebrity scene at all and this has got me too. He just had a really true gift and from that last article, apparently had a really free, inspired spirit. It really just doesnt make sense to me.

I wonder that, too - although I will admit that I am no more moved by this loss, than by that of any other person who dies young and with potential. Celebrity only factors in because out of the dozens or hundreds of other young people who died pointlessly that day, he was someone we've seen and heard of.

Great. Now I got myself all depressed.

That is an excellent point that is very much worth mentioning. A life is a life weather your famous or not. But it's interesting how the celebrity factor influences this type of thing. On a daily basis we see/hear/read about gruesome deaths all over the world, be it by crime, hunger, accident and most of us have simply gotten used to it. When you put things into perspective it simply isn't right. When has men become so numb? And before people start throwing rocks by no means I mean to minimize Heaths' death. I was very shocked by it and do think it's a great loss. I'm just asking why don't people feel this way about all deaths?

Its the fame factor. I don't know you. You don't know me. But we both know him.

When Princess Di was killed, I was depressed for well over a week.

I think the difference, rawfa, is that people like Heath Ledger lived a life about sharing the gifts they were given with the rest of us. Where many celebrities live lives of open excess, Ledger seemed to be a man in love with both his craft and what it could reveal about the human condition.

This is why his death hurts so much more to me. All lives have worth. But his worth was obvious and undeniable.

I think if someone really tried to encompass the loss of everyone who dies on any given day, they'd be an emotional wreck curled up in a corner of their basement, mumbling to themselves...

...celebrity leads people to identify with the celebrated individual, whether they actually know anything at all about them, or (more likely) they don't. The celebrity becomes a screen upon which the fans can project their own feelings, and desires, and hopes, and failings.

Oh, gawd.

Somebody smack me.

Its also easier and scarier to consider your own mortality when something like this happens to a celebrity. They have lives we envy. They are rich, good looking and seem to have the world at their fingertips. They are charmed and lucky. And when death comes upon them too soon we shudder. How could someone so lucky and so charmed die? If it can happen to them it can surely happen to anyone of us. At any moment.

When death happens to the young its always very sad and very tragic. But when that person happens to be charmed we realize that death doesn't discriminate. He just covers his eyes and points to somebody.

Man that was great...

Those kinds of words from Nolan tells me this movie is amazing. If that kind of passion was on the set, could it be anything but magical in the theater? I think not.

Cheesy? maybe a tad. But so true, and well put.

Since we're on articles now, I've got one. This was one of the many articles that turned me onto Heath as an actor, and a person. Keep in mind, this came out way before his death, and RS journalist David Lipsky obviously saw what many saw in Ledger...

It's a good article:

P.S. Did anybody else see the film "Candy"??

Success is a funny thing- there's those who stumble into it not even necessarily wanting it and there are also those who strive for it, even deserve it -and never obtain it. I think many of us are resentful of the former types and identify with the latter but forget the third group, those who work for it, deserve it, and get it.

Whatever, I never watched HL character in a movie I didn't believe so he was definitely doing something right.
