Heath Ledger as the Joker

Even before he died, was anyone else intrigued and chilled by what you saw of Joker in the trailer? I sure was. Especially that long shot of him with his back to camera walking down the street. How is it possible to Perform with you back to the camera at that distance? I had no idea it was Heath Ledger, I actually thought is was Johnny Depp. The other strange thought I had watching that trailer (and I'm talking before HL died) is that "Dark Knight"s Joker reminded me of The Crow.

What first struck me about his performance as the Joker was how his accent was spot on. Normally he has that Australian accent coming through no matter what (as does Eric Bana) but he seemed different in this than any other role of seen him in.

Ledger played an LA Surfer in "Lords of Dogtown" and did he ever nail that character. I grew up in Santa Monica so I think I know what I'm talking about here. Sean Penn spoofed that character in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" but Heath Ledger really brought it home with that under appreciated performance.
