It's been a little over a year since I left my steady "normal" job where my employer provided health insurance.

Now I pretty much job hop - PA, Grip, Camera Assist, Shoot, etc..in order to reach my goals in LA and pay the bills.

I've been without health insurance for the past year because I am CLUELESS on what to get. I don't know what's reliable or if it's a rip off. I'm still in the starting out stage in Hollywood and don't make a lot of money, but was wondering if any of you could recommend something you used when you were a rookie.

What did you guys use when you first started out in the freelance world?

Thank You,

you don't have health insurance?!!!!!!!!!
wow in France as soon as you get a job you have health insurance. yea I know, France is a assisted people country!..... :s

I have anthem blue cross and blue shield.. I pay 77 a month and they dont cover much.. its called disaster or catastrophe insurance or something like that. it doesnt help out with anything small. Its basically a waste of my money... get something that will help out with broken bones, injuries, prescriptions and other common stuff if you have the money.

I for one think our GOV should provide Health Insurance; screw the greedy PHARMACUETICAL companies and their profits.

I love that people are buying his book like crazy and he did time for fraud, larceny, false advertising, etc.

That book Natural cures they don't want you to know about has some very interesting statistics in it. Its hard not believe him. I heard his infomercials were banned from TV.

if the government was providing health insurance wouldnt we be paying for that through taxes? I hate insurance of all types.. its a gamble and if you win you dont get any of your money back. Something bad has to happen for you to get money, and with health insurance you dont always get money to help.

Insurance isnt the problem.. gas is... ridiculous. I was looking through my records of gas purchases in 2002 and in January of that year gas was still $1 a gallon here in VA. I cant believe it was that short of a time frame....

I live near the border city of Detroit and have a lot of Canadian relatives. My relatives ***** about long waits for appointments and such, but all of them are glad they have the system they have rather than the American lack of health care for citizens at all. At the very least, ALL children should be covered whether their parents have insurance through an employer or not. Personally, I’d like to see some kind of national health care insurance option, but I doubt it will ever happen. Even the cobra fees are astronomical for keeping insurance in between jobs.

A lot of people around here also trek across the border to buy prescriptions. It ends up being a lot cheaper, and despite the fact that the pharmaceutical companies and government tell us it's not safe to buy Canadian drugs, I don't see a lot of Canadians dropping dead in the streets from bad penicillin.

I wonder if any of the Canadians on the board agree with my relatives--that they'd take the national health care system over the American system where you only have coverage if your employer provides it or you pay for it yourself.

Cobra fee are indeed a bad dream.

It's corporate greed that prevents this idea from ever happening. If World Peace was something that could be provided by our government but meant Billions would be lost to the corporate conglomerates and investors then we would never see world peace.

I should patent that qoute
