Headphones for noisy environments - need advice!

My headphones (Sennheiser 25) are great for most interviews, but not in a noisy environment. I hear a lot of things that the microphone does not pick up and it difficult to know whether the sound will be good or not. I am looking for a pair of headphones for difficult situations. All advice appreciated!

There are headphones and headphone adaptions designed for high-noise use for example:

But an alternative is to use a good pair of in-ear monitors ("ear buds") and wear ordinary hearing protectors over them. These hearing protectors are available at places that sell safety equipment, tools, etc.

For example, inexpensive examples are as little as US$ 3 in my area:

I'm currently making use of some in-ear earphones, but a hearing protector over that is actually an excellent idea. I might just get a hold of one...

Aviation headphones are traditionally bandwidth-limited to speech frequencies to improve intelligibility for voice communication. I would NOT trust communication gear to be wide-bandwidth enough to be reliable for recording monitoring. Same goes for "noise cancelling" headphones. They are great for dealing with airline noise, but guaranteed to bite you in the backside if you try to rely on them for recording monitoring.

Now, there may be some modern aviation headphones that are wide-bandwidth to support iPod music listening, so shop carefully.

Most modern Aviation set do have full bandwidth. and its usually the electronics in the intercoms that frequency limit them.

but you are correct in recommending to look at specs to be sure.

I am also a big fan of in-ears, I have a set of Klipsch X10s and they are awesome as well.

+1 Remote Audio HN-7506, although expensive they are very helpful in noisy environments. Added bonus for use in less noisy environments, can listen at a lower volume because of effective isolation from surroundings. A bit heavy and certainly not as comfortable but good to have.
