Headphone / earbud for audio monitoring

Does anybody use headphones to monitor the audio from their camera during recording? 90% of my shooting is done with a audio girl, she mixes and monitors, I usually just record and trust her. It works out great and it's one less thing I have to worry about. I have been tossing around the idea of using some 7506's or some iPod earbuds to monitor during recording. Not for any particular reason, but I shoot a ton of docu and wildlife and would help out in some situations.

The 7506's won't work with my ENG camera handheld for obvious reasons, but will work fine with my smaller cameras. I was thinking of using an IFB earpiece (squiggly) less of a chance of it falling out and more comfortable for longer periods. The audio quality isn't 100% but I just need to hear what I'm getting.

Any input or thoughts?

A good pair of in-ears will do you fine. I have some really nice Sony's, I think they cost me $50. I think almost every major electronics company has jumped on the in-ear or "earbud" bandwagon, you don't have to pay a lot to get decent sound without fatigue.

Unless your 'audio girl' has a direct return from the camera, you should monitor the sound. Otherwise how you gonna know if there's issues with the sound> camera connection. This of course is less of an issue if your 'audio girl' is also recording on a second system.

Yeah she's monitoring the return from my camera from her mixer (wendt x4) she also records when I need her to.

Not that earbuds would be my first, or the "best" choice, but if for financial or other reasons that is what you need, I can recommend the "Skull Candy" earbuds as decent quality, with a good amount of bass response if you get them pretty tightly into your ear canal... Also, the mid-lines are only about $30. I've had them about a year, and use them pretty hardily for iPod listening, have used them for mobile production situations, and I have found them to be _extremely_ rugged and robust in comparison to most cheap earbuds, which often get toasted within the first week of use. These babies are still going strong after being rolled and twisted and shaken and grabbed by my kids.

Not technically perfect/flat response and not something I'd mix with exclusively, but decent, robust, and inexpensive. Worth a shot.

I use Klipsch X10s they work awesome, as far as in ears, I also have a set of Futuresonics, also work great. not cheap tho. I love the Klipsch the best, i can wear them for hours.
