Head explosion...

I only have a few rough idea show to do this digitally. I'm a little better with digital effects than I am props and what not.

I've only got adobe premire at my disposal to green out the head. But My chroma keying and what not is pretty putrid as I've only done some little things like this before.

so as much as I hate to sound like a novice(even though I am), could I get some tips/info from you gents and gentles on this matter.

I'm also afraid I have to ask for an explination on what I want in 'simplest form'. Cant help it, I'm a simple guy.

basically what I need to know is...

How to film it properlly? Do I just attach a green square on my actresses face and then just Chroma it out and what not? Keep in mind all I have on hand now is Premire, not after effects(something I'll rectify eventually)

Or do I just opt to film it all in front of a green matte, add a digital background and then just crop off the head or something.

Sorry If my examples/reasoning doesnt sound, well 'sound', but again I'm pretty much a...novice. Bleh, hate that word.

Any help you gents and gentles can offer would very much be appriciated.

Do you have After Effects, or can you get a trial of it? There's a great tutorial some where on blowing up heads without green screen I'll try to find it.

If its a locked off shot then you don't need to greenscreen the actors head, just simply "erase" it using your clean plate, even.

You will need to use projection mapping and an approximate head model (that is close to your actors head)

Then simply fracture the mesh and either use rigid body or particles to cause them to explode, I found that smaller chunks works best.

Then you could also use metaball + particles to simulate "brain splutter".

simply then composit the head_explode element back into your main footage, erase your head at the point of explosion with the head_explode, you may want to add things like blur and smoke etc...

I say this because I did almost what I described in another DVX thread (after effects section) but I messed up the textures and stopped the testing there.

EDIT:

Sorry just realised you ment using 2 1/2D solution rather than full 3d solution, oops my bad

wow, neat, i really need to learn after effects. I have cs3 just havent touched it yet.... hmmm i hope i have an easy time learning it after years with premier.
