Head and matching tripod

I need to purchase a head and tripod for the HVX200. I was looking at getting the Sachtler DV6SB 75mm head and Miller DV420 tripod. I see a lot of recommendations for the Cartoni Focus 100mm head and I'm thinking of going with that head to save some money. If I go the Cartoni route, which tripod should I go with? I was looking at Miller but it's like they have a billion 100mm tripods to choose from. Also, does anyone have a strong opinion either way, and if so, why?

Well I got my Focus along with a one-stage tripod and carrying bag as a bundle from my retailer in a really good price, but there was also two stage option again from Cartoni, they both do their work just fine, however you can always look at other options from other manufacturers regarding tripods, in my view the carbon-fibre ones are overkill for the average joe-indie filmmaker just for a small heads up.

You can't find Sachtler DV6 or DV8's anymore. Sachtler hasn't shipped tripods to dealers in a while but will start shipping again in about 6 weeks. I just bought what may be the last DV8 but got stuck with the sticks with ground spreaders. I really like the Miller legs but not the head so I also bought the 420 legs. If you want a good tripod now, the cartoni is probably your best best unless you go for Vinten's vision 3's. Also a 100 mm ball is overkill for an HVX, those are better for the larger camera's and film cameras.

Okay, so Sachtler is out then. Cartoni seems to be recommended, but I can't find a Cartoni Focus head in 75mm. Are these not made? If not, and a 75mm is recommended, then I take it the Vinten Vision 3 is the way to go? Which legs should I go with if there is a 75mm Cartoni or with the Vinten Vision 3?

Opcode, what do you think of the Miller 440g legs? What would you suggest as the best legs for a 75mm half bowled head? bought a 509 (actually posted this in a separate thread but got no replies :(

SPZ:

I'm sure the 440g is a fine set of legs...like I said, I think Miller makes really nice legs but I have less than stellar opinion of their heads based on my own findings. I have two questions for you, why go for the single stage as opposed to the two stage, and also, why go with the ground spreaders as opposed to the mid-level. If you are going to be using it primarily in a studio and not have to lug it around than go for it. Otherwise, you may want to go 2 stage and/or mid level.

Thanks, Opcode. So what specific model from Miller you suggest for versatility? 420? I'll try and hopefully purchase them by Saturday.

EDIT- Sorry, flmmkr, for threadjacking your thread. Thanks everyone for the info!

No prob. We're all here to get help. So I guess I'll have to see if EVS has that Vinten tripod system with mid-level spreaders. Thanks for the help!

Gitzo 1325v and 1380 head

Gitzo 1325v and 1380 head

Gitzo 1325v legs and a 1380 fluid head.

Check this article out:

He calls it something different, but its the 1325v carbon fiber legs, and 1380 head.

Gitzo just came out with some new type of fiber legs so you might want to wait for

those to migrate over to this system.

I like the review at that link, but no spreader?...sorta makes me nervous. I hope to be getting my hvx soon and I too am researching tripods. So far before reading this I was looking at Cartoni Focus....but now I like this Gitzo. I'll hunt for more reviews on this one I think.
