So Barry Bonds hit his first homer of the season tonight... 709, 5 shy of tying Ruth. Anyone else bothered by this?

At least he's off the juice now (I hope)

doesn't matter, he hit a MAJORITY of his home runs while he was on it..

i don't want him to catch ruth. he's a piece of **** who doesn't deserve it.

he should be :banned:

What a shock he is batting .206 with 1 Homer

Without the horse jiz that's predicatable. Look at him. His head is smaller, he is smaller....

What sham

bonds will alwaya have a shabby rep like pete rose does..... at least rose was truley talented and given a raw deal, in bond's case he's simply a fraud.

I can't stand him. It has NOTHING to do with race as is written in many sports columns. It has to do that he is a cheat and a liar. Playing great baseball has nothing to do with race OR nationality as is all too evident in today's game. I love to watch a great ballplayer and where he comes from and what he looks like has nothing to do with it as long as he plays honestly...something you can't say about Bonds. Nor, can you say that about McGwire and Sosa who played such a great role in bringing back the game to many who left with the last "labor dispute."

He'll go on to break records but there will always be an unsavory odor around those records. It's kinda funny when you think about all the questions about the ball being juiced. It wasn't the ball, fellas, it was the players.

Here's my ultimate issue with this present Bonds' situation. At the core of this drug issue are essentially three active players: Bonds, Giambi, Sheffield (two Yankees...).

Sheffield admitted to his previous use, albeit while saying he didn't know what he was taking, and said that he answered honestly under testimony and has been clean since 2002. Giambi, well, same situation, except he had the health problems to go along with it, and he even came forth in a public press conference to apologize to the organization, fans, and media. True, he never said EXACTLY, what he was apologizing for, but at the same time, everyone knew.

Sheffield is standoffish with the media, so he said his peace and now just wants to be left alone. Giambi is most likely the biggest baby in sports, he wears his heart on his sleeve and and the media and fans really get to him. Some might admire such an open book emotional person, but personally I think it's a little, I don't know. Pink...

From that point, Giambi won comeback player of the year, passed monthly drug tests as imposed by Brian Cashman of the Yankees (as has Sheffield), but more importantly, came back from being a winner to the ultimate loser, to being a winner again.

Yesterday Giambi hit two home runs and drove in 5. He has bounced back, been remembrance by the fans, and found his swing again (he has the best eye in baseball, over .580 OB%).

So, if other high profile and high dollar players have gotten away with it, why is everyone hating on Bonds? Bonds is perhaps the most standoffish, abrasive, and arrogant of all big leaguers. He has publicly insulted Babe Ruth, perhaps the only player in history that was bigger than the game itself and still is even in death. Furthermore, Barry has admitted to nothing, apologized to the fans for nothing, and while he is innocent until proven guilty, he refuses to take a strong stance and either declare his innocent or confess his guilt.

Baseball is built by history, the fact that we can go back and see Ty Cobb's stats, the fact we can compare Barry Bonds to Ruth. We can track pitch counts of Nolan Ryan and compare them with Sandy Koufax. What we can't do though is let the most special holy and prized record in all of professional sport be passed along to someone who wipes his rectum with the merits of those he passed to reach the milestone. Baseball's king must be an ambassador of the game just like S. Oh in Japan is, like Aaron was, or like Ruth continues to be in the memories of people who never saw him play.

I wish Barry would just walk away and retire before he does more damage.
