I'm just trying to put Canon HV20 footage onto bluray using Vegas Pro9 and DVDArchitect 5.0. Minimal editing with Vegas- mainly just transitions.
Vegas Pro 9 shows my HV20 footage as 1080 HDV 1440x1080x32, 29.970fps.
I had issues with Vegas crashing if I tried to have it render using any of the bluray templates (you know- the ones that actually say bluray at the front).
It renders just fine if I select MainConcept Mpeg-2 HDV 1080-60i 25mbps.
I was under the impression that it was best for me to use Vegas to render for bluray using one of the MainConcept Mpeg-2 Bluray templates (in my case 1440x108060i 25mbps) and then hand that off to DVDa5 for menus and stuff before having DVDa actually do the bluray burning. I thought that this would assure that DVDa didnt recompress a second time.
Now here's a comment and then my question:
I'm worried I'm losing quality or getting double recompression.
Can you set me straight on the best way to handle making a bluray with the best quality from my HV20 footage with these 2 programs?
Which approach would be more favorable:
1. Use Vegas to add transitions and a few cuts; render in Vegas using MainConcept Mpeg-2 Bluray 1440x1080 25mbps template; open in DVDa for adding basic menus and chapter additions; burn to bluray using DVDa.
2. Use Vegas to add transitions and a few cuts; render in Vegas using MainConcept Mpeg-2 HDV 1440x1080i template; open in DVDa for adding basic menus and chapter additions; burn to bluray using DVDa.
Keep in mind I have been unable to do #1 above without Vegas hanging (actually Windows claims Vegas "stopped working" so I get no error meesages from Vegas).
I'm in the process of doing #2 above, but DVDa claims it will take over 10 hours start to finish for my 2 hour video. Seems long, but I have no point of reference for my PC so perhaps this is normal. At least it hasn't crashed yet!
