HDV > ProRes > SD DVD always better?

Hi. I've been searching on this and have found many different answers. Talking to a friend of mine he says its ALWAYS better. My understanding is that it's only useful when using graphics/effects/transitions etc especially to smooth out the editing process since HDV is processor hungry. In the end you're still gonna down convert to an SD DVD.
I decided to find out. So I took 1 unaltered 10 second clip and built a DVD in DSP using 3 different pathways to Compressor for its default DVD settings.
1. HDV>DVD
2. HDV down convert to DV>DVD
3. HDV>ProRes>DVD
They all looked the same to me!
Any thoughts/suggestions would e appreciated. Thanks.

It makes sense since you are down-sampling from a much higher initial resolution and anything converted to ProRes is supposed to be virtually identical to the original source material.

From my own testing, I couldn't spot a difference until I started adding a lot of effects, color correction and especially any motion graphics. So whenever that's the case, I go the ProRes route.

You should try repeating your tests with various types of footage and different levels of color correction, etc.
