HDV (ProHD) Compatible VCR

the BR-HD50E seems like a great VTR, but quite a lot of money. I'm just deciding whether to buy the GY-HD100E or the GY-HD101E. it's like 700 euro in price.

Could there be some HDV VTR's (compatible with the full ProHD implementation) available in the (near) future? That would allow me to go for the GY-HD100E and spend the 700 on a VTR, witch woulf heve better options to connect it to a HD-LCD.

In europe there are no possibilities to show the HD image (no HD-DVD, yet...) unless the BR-HD50E, but that's 4000 euros... :(
 
Only "Pro-HD" labled decks will properly handle the HDV signal from the HD100.
It's a new type of HDV that requires a new type of playback deck. Sony won't work, either.
 
So, what do you think then? consider that I'm in europe....

Spend the extra 700 on a HD101E and dub the HD-projects back to tape. Of course I have to wait then until HD-DVD recordes come out to SEE the HD-images...

Won't the JVC CU-VH1 work? perhaps w/o the 24p?
 
Why not encode a WM9 720p24 signal to a DVD-R and playback with an Avel Link Player?
Here they are imported and sold for $250US.. Not a bad deal considering it will do HD.

So far as a deck, I think only the ProHD model will work. I don't think the other one will...
Keep in mind I've never used either of them and only handled the camera briefly.

Perhaps someone could confirm that the CU-VH1 deck will not handle 24p HDV unless converted?

Say, you handled the camcorder. I have a question then: w/o the AntonBauer, is it well balanced then? or is it like the XL1 (front heavy) or even like the XL2 (VERY front heavy)?

And can you describe something about how small it is exactly (I know that's a difficult question)
 
So far as "handling" it, well it was more like "saw" it.
They were all locked down on heads except the one with a mock-up mini35.
While that one was within arms reach, it didn't have a battery on it as I recall.

Can't really comment on balance since the display wasn't really setup for it.
Does this camera even take Anton or V-mount batteries? I didn't see any on display.

The camera is "about" the size of XL1/XL2. Maybe a tad bit smaller. The big handle on top
makes it look much larger than it really is. It's definitely a very little camera. Hope this helps.

yep, thanks very much. Just made an appointment with the JVC dealer - I can test the balance myself in a few days.
I'm hoping somewhat the Anton-adapter won't be necassary for balance, but in all fairness, I would be surprised if it isn't....
