Hey boys. My first time using Vegas. I'm trying to capture HDV and I've followed the rules but when I go to capture, the screen is blue. The picture plays on my camcorder and I can hear the audio coming thru Vegas but no picture. Can somebody help me? Thanks.
I'm borrowing the camera from a friend. It says Sony HDV all over it, but no speciific model number. Under the 3ccd it reds Carl Zeiss Vario-sonnar. I'll look it up and get back to you. I'm on a serious time constraint and all I need is two minutes of footage from this thing to complete my short. It shouldn't be this hard. I'm still somewhat of an idiot when it comes to these things. Thanks for your help.
In all probablility its a FX or Z1 if newer. And also it may not be you whos the idiot. Anyway look up the manual or ask your friend. In fact thats a valid point that all these major camera manufacturers dont put the model no on the cam so you dont know if your holding the first or second version. Maybe thats the point. lol. Anyway i shot some footage on a Z1 which was given to me by SONY BROADCAST's official Distributors in my city for a trial. They played in a HDV recorder and they themselves couldnt capture the video using vegas on their laptops (and these are guys who sell sony pro eqpt to all major studios) They were struggling for 3 hrs and they mustve reebooted and hit capture nearly 70 times atleast. Finally i said i want to go home. So i have the tape (normal minidv) which has the HDV footage but im unable to get it out. All the studios which have HDV decks/recorders also dont seem to know anything about capturing the m2t sream. They havent even heard of m2t ....lol. I wonder how they survive. They only know BETA, DIGIBETA and such other staple formats. Im perplexed.
Thanks. I'm going to go over to use my buddy's adobe. I know it'll work on that. You just saved me another hour of banging my head on the wall trying to capture this thing.
Vegas 6 and 7 can capture FX1/Z1 (or any HDV) footage easily. There are two "capture" applications, one for DV (the regular one) and a little stripped-down one for HDV. Make sure you're using the one for HDV.
The broadcast eqpt guys that day were trying the stripped one only. Would just freeze up. Then they would reboot. This kept on and on forever. The other studios where i went they could play the tape on the sony HDV recorder. But they say they havent heard of M2T ? whats the way to get this M2T file out ? They say that in their workflow with this camera they usually get a hdv file. The numbskulls dont even know what extension the file has. They only keep on saying its a hdv file hdv file. Its 1080i x 1440. As if i didnt know that. Is it M2T....they dont know. Another doubt i have is that they say the sony z1 is native 16x9. Then how come its file or ccd size is 1440x1080. Thats 4:3. Does it use non square pixels then to achieve widescreen HDV. And if it does then why do people say they love the native widescreen resolution and so on on this camera ? When we import this 1440x1080 file into vegas will it stretch out to widescreen ?
Barry, what do you mean? I'm capturing it exactly like the instructions tell me to. I'm going to preferernce, Video, unclicking the box so it's not external, and then clicking okay. Then I click the little picture of the camera, tell it to use firewire, and then capture. I'm getting sound but just a blue screen.
When you click the little camera, do you get a "Capture Video" dialog box which asks you choose between External and Internal? If so, which one do you choose?
