HDV in FCP move

I already use FCP but I may make the move to HDV but I don't know if I'm going to get rid of my old standby G4. I've decked it out to be an editing superstar (three drives, gig and a half memory) but I'm actually thinking about going to laptop editing strictly for HDV. I have a Apple Store here and I was tempted with a $1099 MacBook and of course the top of the line black MacBook for $1499 (yes it's hot).

I am in the position now where I could obtain either one. I'm wondering should I sell my old system and buy this one, should I keep this one and the laptop or should I wait for the intell G5s desktops and replace this one then buy a G3 laptop simply for writing and internet. Mind you the MacBook price is good but I would be very tempted to carry it around which may not be good. Although I do plan to travel to LA sometime this year (or maybe next) I would like to have a MacBook for that. (But that's in the future). Keep in mind I've never been a fan of laptop editing but I can buy a mouse so it's no big deal and I don't really use "Motion" so that's not a problem either (I know MacBooks are slow with Motion).

Also I have to take into consideration the fact I'll have to upgrade everything. I can get FCP Express HD (will that run on the Mac Books universally)? Right now I'm cool with this set up. Also does anyone know how the footage from the JVC HD1 looks? I saw one on eBay for 800. I could get one of those sound boxes and put on it for the XLR cable, but I'd like to get something like this just to see what HDV editing is like especially the one chip variety. I read somewhere HDV footage actually takes up a little less space than DV footage

My advice, sell all current computers and upgrade to the best one you can afford now, and put it to work. Don't deal with old macs unless its a super deal. Its a pain in the butt to sync all of them up. Just get the mac book, then get the Intel Mac Tower and you will be set for the next 4 years.
